The plans to transform Navan town centre are to go on public display
Plans for a major revitalisation of Navan's Town Centre will go on public display starting on 8th May.
Meath County Council this week launched detailed plans to revitalise and rejuvenate Navan town centre and has invited the public to comment on the proposals.
The plans, which are the first phase of the Council’s ‘Navan 2030 Plan’, are designed to make Navan a better place to live, work and visit. They include the controversial proposals for a bus hub at Kennedy Road.
The ‘Navan 2030’ Plan will now go to a six-week public consultation and providing there is planning consent, works could begin in early 2018 and be substantially completed in 2020.
The plans lay out improvements and enhancements to the appearance of the town and its public areas and improved access and movement in and out of the town centre. They are designed to meet the current and future needs of an expanding population while strengthening economic growth in the town, supporting business, retail and tourism.
Meath County Council CEO Jackie Maguire commented; “Navan is at a key stage in its development. As the number of people living here grows, the town must adapt to meet their needs. These plans will deliver a new, attractive, pedestrian friendly town centre, combined with frequent and reliable public transport services. They will make for a better experience for those visiting the town centre and it will encourage more people to visit, to shop and to stay longer.”
Key elements of the Plan include; visual enhancements to the streetscape, upgrading streets, laneways and public spaces in the historic and modern areas of the town centre, with high quality pedestrian facilities and connectivity throughout as well as greater accessibility for pedestrians, including people with disabilities, cyclists, public transport, cars and other vehicles.
Maximised connectivity around the town centre is a priority in the plan for pedestrians with safer, multi-functional, and traffic calmed streets that balance movement and ‘place’ and establish and promote strong pedestrian connections between the historic and modern areas; the retail/commercial quarter and the cultural quarter of Navan.

The local and regional bus routes will be rationalised and integrated and a new edge-of-town ‘Terminus’/ ‘Park & Ride’ for buses and coaches will be provided.
Through traffic will be re-routed around the town centre, pedestrian space will be increased and enhanced throughout.
The multimillion Euro plans are being proposed by Meath County Council and supported by the National Transport Authority.
The Council will be holding a number of information days and hosting displays over the next six weeks. A publication outlining the plans will also be delivered to households shortly.
