Heartbeat by drum on Hill of Tara next Sunday
Next Sunday, 28th May, the Hill of Tara hosts 'Drumbeat', a memorial fundraiser with a heartbeat drum emulation led by Stephen Walsh against an emotive narration about how precious your heart really is.
People are invited to participate or attend a very emotional heartbeat emulation in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation following their national 'Happy Heart' campaign. Suggested donation of €5 on the day.
Event organiser Tracey Hanby, who is also a nurse, lost her father unexpectedly at his home on 21st December last. It is a day she is trying to accept and in her loss decided to focus on a positive event to promote a simple message: 'Love your heart!'
'Waking up is never guaranteed and yet we take life for granted,' she says. 'Dad likely died of a heart related cause. But his sudden passing has left a huge void in my life. So much is being done nationally and successfully in cancer care, a service I work in. But now I would love to see more being done for Heart Disease and maybe one day everyone will know how to give life saving CPR.'
For more than 50 years, the Irish Heart foundation has been fighting heart disease and stroke empowering the people of Ireland to live longer, happier lives.
The Happy Heart Appeal – Irish Heart’s biggest annual fundraising campaign- has centred around the iconic Happy Heart pin and to celebrate its 27th year, this year’s pin has been created by contemporary Irish designer, Orla Kiely.
“I am thrilled to have partnered with Irish Heart for this year’s Happy Heart Appeal and help highlight the vital services and training they provide for people in Ireland”
Central to the mission of Irish Heart is to help save more lives from cardiac arrest through CPR training. 5,000 lives are lost every year in Ireland to sudden cardiac arrest, that’s 13 lives lost every day.
Starting CPR can double if not triple a person’s chance of survival. In the event of a collapse from cardiac arrest, every minute is vital.
Without CPR or defibrillation, the chance of survival falls by up to 10 percent a minute. After just five minutes, that person may only have a 50 percent chance of survival
Cardiac arrest could happen to anyone, someone at work, in your community, or at home so it’s essential to know exactly what to do, and be confident in doing it to be able to save lives.
Drumbeat hopes to raise much needed funds through donations and drum participation on the day with a unique performance of a heartbeat drum emulation led by Stephen Walsh against an emotive narration about how precious your heart really is.
There will be music from Keith Plunkett and a samba drumming celebration led by Dorian Bardolo, following a minute's silence to celebrate and say goodbye to Tracey's dad, David Hanby. Musician Frank McNamara will be master of ceremonies.
Hopefully Drumbeat can drum up support for the charity whilst promoting a simple health message 'to love your heart for a happy heart'.
So bring you drums, pots, pans and paint tins along to participate in this unique memorial on the Hill of Tara.
