Mark Scanlon launches FAI third level season
FAI National Co-ordinator for Schools and Third Level football Mark Scanlon from Trim launched the 2016/'17 Third Level Football season yesterday with Athboy man Jamie McGrath present to assist in the event.
'We're delighted to be able have this launch in Abbotstown for the second year in a row for the men's and women's divisions,' commented Scanlon who took over his new role in the FAI after many years as Meath Regional Development Officer.
This season's Leagues will see 108 teams from 50 Third Level institutions compete across five divisions.
'We're looking forward to another great season with the quality increasing all the time. Last year, we had 2,811 registered players in third level football across the various different divisions,' added Scanlon.
'We had five divisions of men's football, which catered for 78 teams last year. We had two divisions in the Women's football and that is expanding to three this year, with 24 teams now involved.
'It is a huge opportunity for everyone across the universities and colleges to play football whilst also importantly offering scholarship opportunities for young footballers to get third level education,' he concluded.
