Wolfe Tones face relegation scrap as Moynalvey leave best until last
They left it late but Moynalvey produced arguably their best display of the SFC campaign when they defeated Wolfe Tones 2-15 to 0-17 at Summerhill this evening.
The result means that Moynalvey avoided a relegation scrap and instead Wolfe Tones, once the dominant force in Meath football, now go into a play-off with Duleek/Bellewstown and Ballinlough to see who goes down.
Moynalvey took some time to get going but once they did there was no stopping them.
They led 0-11 to 0-8 at the interval and produced some scintillating football in the second-half to run out deserving winners.
Moynalvey - without Padraic Harnan who is in New Zealand - really took a grip on this game when they scored their first goal on 47 minutes with Cillian O'Sullivan finishing from close range.
They added a second when Dan Treacy finished well to put his side 2-14 to 0-13 in front.
Wolfe Tones enjoyed good inventive spells with Thomas O'Reilly particularly impressing with five points from play.
Cian Ward contributed his usual quota of scores (six) from frees but the concession of the two goals were real blows that left the Tones on the ropes - and now facing a relegation scrap.
