Emergency services deal with fire
The local fire brigade was quickly on the scene this evening after they received a call that there was a fire at the rear of the Beechmount Shopping Centre in Navan.
Smoke was billowing from the clothes bank that is located at the rear of the centre on the Trim Road and close to the Beechmount Estate.
It appeared that a fire had been started beside the metal container that contains the clothing but a motorist who had noticed the smoke made the necessary call and the local services - fire and gardai - responded quickly.
Security personnel at the centre were also present when the emergency services arrived.
What could have been a potentially dangerous situation was averted by the prompt action of the men from the fire brigade.
