Mooney on the mark at Bellewstown

The members of the Last Shilling Syndicate who are from around the Duleek area had a few bob to collect this evening at the opening day of the Bellewstown two-day August festival when the aptly-named Full Shilling won a 45-65 handicap.

Trained locally by Paddy Mooney from nearby Curraha, Full Shilling seems to like Meath tracks as there was a previous win at Fairyhouse in June - on only its fourth run for the trainer.

Full Shilling was previously with Garvan Donnelly and Dermot McLoughlin, but it hadn't won since scoring on the flat at Chepstow in 2012.

The eight-year-old filly was ridden by Dylan Hogan for his second winner of the season, the young jockey made his move about two furlongs from home and found a gap winning by a length and a quarter.

 Kilmessan handler Matthew Smith added to the local flavour at Bellewstown when he won the final race on the card this evening with Royal Roslea which won at 16/1 with jockey Oisin Orr on board.

The filly was previously trained in Engand by Marcus Tregoning, but was purchased for 2,000 guineas at Tattersalls last October.

Maintaining a Meath theme was Moynalty jockey Declan McDonogh who was a winner with Xebec in the Drogheda Traders Plate Handicap for trainer John Oxx.
