Ladies Feile set for busy weekend
It is a festival for football this weekend as Meath Ladies GFA host Féile throughout the county with the semi-finals and finals set for Dunganny on Sunday, writes Aisling Clery.
23 teams from across the county will battle it out for the coveted Cup, Shield and Plate competitions. After the success of last year’s competition, fun and enjoyment is the order of the day with plenty of skills on show.
Preliminary round games will take place on Saturday in the Cup competition with 11 teams battling it out for a place in Sunday’s semi finals.
Last year’s winners Royal Gaels will take on the challenge of Gaeil Colmcilles and Simonstown in Group One while last year’s runners-up Dunboyne will play Walterstown, Skryne and Na Fianna in the group stages.
In the third group of the Cup competition, Seneschalstown, Summerhill, St. Colmcilles and Clann na nGael will all go to battle for a chance at Sunday’s semi finals.
In the Shield Competition, not only will the group games be played but also the semi finals in order to streamline Sunday’s finals which act as curtain raisers to the sixth round of the Lidl NFL where Meath will host Clare from 2pm.
Rathkenny will host last year’s Shield runners-up St. Pats, with Dee Rangers and Dunsany also looking for a place in the semi finals while in Group 2 Navan O’Mahonys will host Duleek-Bellewstown, Slane and Oldcastle.
The semi-finals of the Shield will take place at 4pm in O’Mahonys with the final scheduled for 11.30 in Dunganny on Sunday morning.
The Plate competition has just four teams this year so it will run to a conclusion on Saturday in Ratoath. The hosts’ second team will take on Drumbaragh as well as second teams from Walterstown and Dunboyne. With the top two after the group stages battling it out in the final at 15.30.
Meath Ladies are holding a very special competition for Féile teams this weekend. All teams are asked to take a team picture – the happier and more unusual the better and email it to PRO Aisling Clery at promeathladies@gmail.com
The most unusual photo will win a training session hosting by members of our County Senior panel! A terrific prize for the best photo – so get your thinking hats on! Photos must be submitted by Sunday evening to be in with a chance of winning!
All Féile teams, especially ones in action on Sunday are asked to come and support our Senior team as they take on Clare. A win is badly needed for Eoin Hennessy’s troops so the more Royal support the better! #SeriousSupport
