Sean Carpenter, Navan Widespread regret was occasioned by the passing of Mr Sean Carpenter, Clusker Park, Navan, at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, on 21st December last, aged 69. Deceased worked as a French polisher in Dublin, and was a valued member of the Irish National Foresters organisation in Navan. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife, Bernie; sons, Rory and Stephen; daughter, Fiona; grandchildren, Daena, David, Chloe; brothers, Phil, St Brigid's Villas, Navan, and Martin, Woodview, Navan; in-laws; relatives and friends. The funeral took place from St Oliver's Church, Navan, to Glasnevin Crematorium. ________________________________________________________ David Gleeson, Clonee The death occurred on 11th November last of Mr David Gleeson, Main Street, Clonee, at the age of 81, at Marymount Nursing Home, Westmanstown, Co Dublin, surrounded by his family. A native of Ballyferriter, Co Kerry, he was son of Sergeant Michael and Elizabeth Gleeson, and moved with his family to Athboy at the age of eight. He was educated at Presentation Convent, Dingle; Athboy National School, and St Finian's College, Mullingar. After leaving school, deceased joined CIE as a computer programmer and continued to work with computers until retirement. He was a lifelong member of the Chartered Institute of Transport. During his life, Mr Gleeson was involved in many community and parish activities in Clonee, including parish question time team that won the Rehab Leinster title in 1986. He was a founder member and secretary of the Royal Meath Pitch and Putt Club which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. He was president of the parish residents association, editor of the Dunboyne News, and a minister of the Eucharist. His main interest was music and singing and he was a long term member of Dunshaughlin Choral Society who performed widely, including in Rome. Deceased will be remembered as loved and much loving. Mr Gleeson is survived by his wife, Cecilia; sons, David, Two Mile House Naas, Co Kildare; Paul, Ratoath; daughters, Grace Costello, Prosperous Co Kildare; Emily O'Connor, Lucan Co Dublin; sister, Geraldine Fitzsimons, Clonmellon Co Westmeath; grandchildren; sons-in-law; daughters-in-law; relatives; neighbours and friends. The funeral took place on the 14th November from St Peter's and Paul's Church, Dunboyne, to Rooske Cemetery. ________________________________________________________ Margaret Kelly, Navan There was widespread sadness following the death of Mrs Margaret (Madge) Kelly, Beechmount Vale, Navan, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, following a long illness which she bore with great dignity. Daughter of the late Jim and Esther Farrelly, St Patrick's Terrace, Navan, she was predeceased by her sister, May Thomas, Colorado, in February 2007. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and loved nothing more than being surrounded by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Stephen; daughter, Fiona; son, David; grandchildren, Evan, Katelyn and Molly May; son-in-law, Malachy; Michelle, fianceé of David; brother-in-law, Vivian Thomas; cousin, Fr Jimmy Bradley, Cailfornia; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; relatives and friends. The funeral took place from St Mary's Church, Navan, to Kilmessan Cemetery, celebrated by Fr Declan Hurley. A month's memory Mass will take place in St Mary's Church, Navan, on Sunday 20th January, at 1pm. ________________________________________________________ Sr Catherine McFadden, Gibbstown and France The regretted death occurred on 7th December last, at Maison de Retraite, La Misericorde, France, of Sr Catherine McFadden, who was the eldest daughter of the late Owen and Cecily McFadden of Gibbstown, Navan. Aged 94, deceased was born in Ranafast, the Gaeltacht Rinnafarset area of Co Donegal, and moved to Gibbstown with her parents and siblings in 1937. Realising that she had a calling to the religious life, she left for England when she was barely 20. She joined the nursing order of the Sisters of Misericorde in Hammersmith, and from there was transferred to Ardrossan, Scotland. After that house subsequently closed, Sr Catherine was sent to the mother house in Sees, France, where she spent the last 40 years of her life. Although she spent most of her life abroad, she never forgot her native tongue and on her visits home, she conversed in Irish whenever she could. She was predeceased by her brothers, James, Patrick and Tadhg; and sister, Mary. She is survived by her brothers, Joe, Michael and Neil McFadden, Gibbstown; sisters, Bridie Curran, Balsaw, Wilkinstown; Teresa Murray, Dunshaughlin; in-laws, relatives and friends. The funeral took place from St Catherine's Church, Oristown, to the local cemetery on Sunday 15th December. ________________________________________________________ Jimmy O'Brien, Dunderry The regretted death occurred on 22nd December last of Mr James (Jimmy) O'Brien, Churchtown, Dunderry, at Beaumont Hospital. Aged 75, deceased was a native of Mooncoin, Co Kilkenny, and had emigrated to London in his twenties. While there, he met his wife, Lily, and they returned to Navan, where they married and started their family. Mr O'Brien worked as a bus driver with the Rogers family, and later with Chadwicks, before starting his own business, Navan Heating Company, which ran until 1990. He then started up a haberdashery market stall at Fairyhouse Market, which he enjoyed immensely, and continued until his health deteriorated. Deceased was a great follower of the Kilkenny hurling team, and attended many games in Croke Park with family members and his brother, Teddy, following 'the cats'. He was also an avid Manchester United Football Club follower and in August 2011, he was treated to a trip to Old Trafford by his son Michael, for a Manchester United game against Arsenal, where he saw the home side winning 8-2. Mr O'Brien kept greyhounds up until the time Navan Greyhound track closed, and he and Lily also enjoyed playing bingo, often two to three times a week. He is survived by his wife, Lily; daughters, Nuala and Elizabeth; sons, James, Noel, John and Michael; son-in-law, John; daughters-in-law, Tracey, Deborah and Naoimh; grandchildren, relatives and friends. He was predeceased forty years ago this May by his daughter, Mary. The funeral took place from St Cuthbert's Church, Boyerstown, to Boyerstown Cemetery. ________________________________________________________ Tommy O'Reilly, Athboy The death of Mr Tommy O'Reilly, Otterstown, Athboy, took place peacefully at his home on 16th December last. He was aged 58 and a native of Kiaranwell, Carnaross, Kells. Deceased was a loving family man who will be dearly missed by his family. He loved life, loved working around the garden and keeping his home, providing many happy times and memories at home and at family occasions. He is survived by his wife, Sheila; daughters, Imelda, Aoife and Emer; sons-in-law, Michael Boylan, Martin O'Neill, and Niall Murdiff; seven grandchildren; sisters, Ann, Philomena and Maureen; brothers, Sean, Joseph, Oliver, Christopher and Raymond; relatives and friends. The funeral took place from St James' Church, Athboy, to St James' Cemetery. A month's memory Mass takes place in Athboy Church on Thursday 17th January at 7.30pm.
