Outstanding Achievement award for Gordon Elliott
Meath trainer Gordon Elliott scooped the Outstanding Achievement award at last night's ninth annual Meath Sports Awards organised by the Meath Chronicle and Cusack Hotel Group.
Six nominees were each honoured with an award, but last night an overall winner was selected by way of a vote amongst the 300 guests at the popular event.
Whne the votes were counted Gordon Elliott emerged as the overall winner of the accolade that was first won by trainer Noel Meade in 2008 following a vote in the Meath Chronicle newspaper that year.
Noel was on hand to make the presentation to Gordon who made a special effort to attend on the night following a hectic day at Gowran Park.
Gordon was selected for his award based on his seven winners on one day in July 2015 on either side of the Irish Sea. He recorded a 474/1 seven-timer on each side of the Irish Sea with three winners at Bellewstown and four at Perth in Scotland.
In an interview on stage he explained that he was at both venues that day at Perth in the afternoon and then back to the Meath track at Bellewstown for the evening meeting.
Gordon tallied his 100th winner for the season on each side of the Irish Sea at Navan on Monday 14th December and he was also recognised by HRI with the selection of Don Cossack as the joint-winner of the horse-of-the-year accolade.
