Crowds sign Books of Condolences

Meath residents have been turning out in huge numbers to sign the Books of Condolences opened at Navan Garda Station and Navan Town Hall to mark the death of Det Garda Adrian Donohoe in Co Louth last Friday night. The murder has reverberated around Meath this week and particularly in Navan where his brother is a serving garda. Meath Gardai have been rallying round to support the family of the slain detective and his brother Martin, who is a popular member of the force at Navan Garda Station. It is understood that Gardai in Navan had to break to the horrendous news to their colleague, who was on duty on Friday night, that his brother had died in the shooting. Superintendent Michael Devine said Garda Martin Donohoe's colleagues in Meath had been rallying round to offer support since the brutal killing on Friday night in which Det Garda Adrian Donohoe was shot in the head in a raid at Lordship Credit Union. Members of the Garda Siochana in Navan formed part of the guard of honour at Det Garda Donohoe's funeral on Wednesday.
