Local winners at Navan

Summerhill jockey Robbie Power added another winner to his tally at Navan races yesterday when the Jessica Harrington-trained Oscars Well bounced returned to winning ways in a novice chase at the track. Oscars Well, a two-time grade one winner over hurdles, made a winning start over fences at Punchestown in October, but fell in a grade two event there last month. Yesterday, Power and Oscars Well were clear from the fifth last, but the advantage was reduced when another Harrington runner Jenari made ground in the straight. However, Cootamundra came through to take second before the last and closed to within seven lengths. A novice chase at Leopardstown is the next target. See video of finish (click on link if necessary) http://youtu.be/2CD7uw6gsxA Andrew Lynch was also on the mark when pertnering Moscow Mannon, fourth in the bumper at Cheltenham last March, to a winning start over jumps in a maiden hurdle for trainer Brian Hamilton who suggested the Slaney Hurdle at Naas next January as a likely target. The Gordon Elliott-trained Roi Du Mee reverted to the minor obstacles and duly won the Proudstown Handicap Hurdle. Elliott's charge was rated 30 pounds lower over hurdles and Jane Mangan took another seven off and hit the front three out to win by almost 10 lengths. And local trainer Finbarr Hand, who trains at nearby Ratholdron Castle, saw his 20/1 outsider Fredsmemory record a debut win in the bumper. Kildare jockey Gareth Malone made his move two furlongs out and battled with the Willie Mullins-trained Very Vite to win by a length. "He's a bit quirky and showed that at the start, but we've been waiting a while for this, he got a hairline fracture of the knee in the past and was only about 80 per cent fit today," stated the trainer.
