Treacy best of irish trio in beijing
Meath athlete Sara Treacy (Dunboyne AC) competed at her first World Athletics Championship in Beijing at 3.00am Irish time this morning in the 3000m steeplechase where she finished 13th in her qualifying heat.
While she did not make it through to the final this marks a very important stepping stone for the junior doctor who works in Birmingham.
She finished in 29th place overall which marks a significant improvement as she came into the event ranked 42nd of the 47 entrants and third ranked of the three Irish competitors.
Her time of 9:48.24 was four seconds outside of her PB, but was well ahead of the two other Irish competitors - Michelle Finn (9:55.27) and Kerry O'Flaterty (10:05.10) who both had slightly better times going into Beijing.
This showed that the Meath woman can perform on the big stage.
Sara will gain from this experience as she now prepares for Rio 2016 and some funding would allow her to take time out for that purpose.
