Meath's narrow victory
Meath staged a fine second-half recovery to defeat UCD by 1-13 to 0-15 in the O'Byrne Cup at Navan this afternoon. However, Louth impressive 1-17 to 0-9 victory over Longford at Drogheda means that the Wee County qualify from the group and will host Dublin in a semi-final in Drogheda next Sunday. Meath trailed by 0-7 to 0-9 at the interval against UCD, but ti was the introduction of Brian Meade after the break that gave Meath a boost. Damien Carroll scored the Meath goal and the result means that manager Mick O'Dowd is unbeaen after three games.
