Overhaul of gaa club fixture schedule planned for next month
GAA President Aogán Ó Fearghail and GAA Director General Padraic Duffy will be working on a plan aimed at providing more games for club footballers once the business of today's All-Ireland SFC final between Dublin and Kerry at Croke Park is completed.
The GAA President was speaking at the official opening of Meath GAA's Centre of Excellence at Dunganny yesterday evening and in his concluding remarks he outlined the proposal to produce what will be a radical overhaul of the fixture schedule.
The Cavan native stressed that the main objective will be to improve the lot of the club players by providing more games and a structure that will provide a definite schedule of games.
'This will apply to football and hurling and it is something that has been an issue for the GAA for many years,' he commented.
Meath GAA Co Board has already set up a committee to improve the structures for the club championships in 2016 and those recommendations are likely to be discussed at the forthcoming annual convention.
With this proposal from the GAA nationally, it is likely that there will be a special meeting convened to look the club fixture schedule in more details before decisions are made.
