Meath edged out by kerry
Meath hurlers produced a spirited performance today against hosts Kerry in the second round proper of the Christy Ring Cup in an exciting tussle that saw the Munster men win by a narrow margin of 1-23 to 2-18.
Meath went into this game on the back of last week's impressive victory against Wicklow and despite the long trip to Kerry, the players showed plenty of skill as they established a deserved 1-13 to 1-9 interval advantage.
Meath's first-half goal was from Kiltale's Jack Regan from a penalty and while Kerry upped the tempo in the second-half, it was all square at 1-18 each approaching the final 10 minutes.
Kerry opened up a gap at that stage, but there was last flourish in Meath and Moylagh's Willie McGrath found the net in the closing stages to make it a nervy finish for the hosts.
Meath manager Martin Ennis will take plenty of positives out of this game and will now turn his attention to the next outing when Meath will have a chance to get back into contention against one of the best teams to emerge from the losers' group.
In that pool at the moment are Derry, London, Down, Wicklow, Mayo, Kildare.
Next weekendend it's Derry v London; Mayo v Kildare.
Meath will be back in action on Saturday 23rd May.
The most likely date for the start of the Meath club hurling championships is weekending 13th June.
