4000 cyclists take to meaths roads this weekend
As many as 4,000 cyclists will be taking to the roads around Trim and other parts of County Meath this Saturday and Sunday for the annual An Post Meath Heritage Cycle.
Family cyclists are gearing up to take part in the 11km family spin as part of the An Post Cycle Tour this Saturday, 25th July, from Trim.
Families can register on the day from 2pm in the marquee on the grounds of Trim Castle. The 11km family spin is over a flat route, suitable for all family members. The aim of the cycle is to promote the fun and enjoyment of cycling, with safety a key priority.
The event is open to children aged six years and over and all children must be accompanied by an adult at all stages of the cycle.
The other events in the Meath Heritage Cycle Tour - the 50km Tara Loop, 100km Royal Tour and 160km Royal Challenge - will all take place on Sunday morning 26th July, departing at different times from 8am until 10.30am from Trim's Castle Street.
For the second year, local charity the Friends of St Joseph's Community Nursing Unit in Trim, will benefit from the An Post Cycle Tour.
A carnival atmosphere is promised at the start/finish area in Trim with picnic tables and food stalls provided where spectators can relax.There will also be bouncy castle to entertain children in addition to other entertainment.
