Sara treacy double earns irish team selection
Meath athlete Sara Treacy will be in action at the 15th IAAF World Athletics Championships in China from Saturday 22nd to Sunday 30th August.
Treacy, who scooped the Meath Sports Person of the Month award for February, enjoyed a good weekend at the National Track and Fields Championships this weekend.
She won the 3,000m steeplechase yesterday at Santry and the 1,500m today.
There was an added bonus for Treacy with the announcement this evening that she has made the Irish team for the World Athletics Championships in China.
Treacy will depart tomorrow morning from Dublin with the Irish team for the World Championships in Beijing.
Now with the Dunboyne club, Treacy retained her national 3,000m steeplechase title on Saturday in 9:58.92 from Ann Marie McGlynn in second from the Letterkenny club with Jessica Coyne (Dooneen AC) in third.
Today she won the senior women's 1,500 metres in 4:18.62 ahead of Kerry O'Flaherty (Newcastle & District) in 4:19.10 and Emma Mitchell from Banbridge who was third in 4:22.51
The qualifying heats for the 1,500m will start on 22nd August while the qualifying for the 3,000m steeplechase will take place on 24th August.
