Kells road race weekend starts with charity run
The Kells Road Races got off to the customary start this evening with the charity run from the Railway Bar via Carlanstown and Moynalty back to the headquarters in Kells as the countdown continues to tomorrow's practice sessions with a number of races scheduled in the evening time around the well-regarded Crossakiel circuit.
This year the charity run was in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland in memory of Aidan Lynam and there was great enthusiasm evident despite the wet conditions.
However, from tomorrow the sound of finely-tuned motorcycle engines will reverberate around the Crossakiel road race circuit with the 2015 Carole Nash-sponsored Kells Road Races in association with Road Racing Ireland set for action.
“The financial support of the sponsors are vital and we would like to acknowledge the following along with our main sponsor Carole Nash,' commented secertary Aileen Ferguson who will have a hectic weekend making sure the event runs like clockwork.
'We also aknowledge Meath Co Council, TD Caldwell, Dromad Hire, CC’s Unlimited, McCabe’s Bar & Lounge, The Welcome Wagon, Hogan’s Farm, The Amigos, Dixon International Transport, Phoenix Engineering, Navan Ford, Hire Max, McNulty’s Enniskillen, Clarke’s, Skyway and the Headfort Arms Hotel,” she added.
There will also be a display in the paddock of race bikes once ridden by Richard Britton and Martin Finnegan and there will be an exhibition lap on Race Day as a tribute.
Meath riders taking part include Mark Shiels (Duleek), Alan Bonner (Stamullen), Kevin Callan (Navan), Ed Manly (Ashbourne), Sean Henry (Dunboyne), Pat Murray (Kildalkey), Conor O Neill (Athboy), Sean O Neill (Athboy – riding William Dunlop’s 125cc).
Newcomers to Kells this year include Melissa Kennedy from Enniskillen in action on a Honda 125cc and Veronika Hankocyova from the Czech Republic on a Kawasaki 649cc. Michal Dokoupil also from the Czech Rep will be making a return to Kells on a Yamaha 599cc and a Kawasaki 649cc.
Some of the many competitors entered include Alan Bonner (Gas Safety Systems Kawasaki 600, Kawasaki 1000), Andy Farrell (N2K 600, Brix Moto 650 ), Jamie Hamilton (Kawasaki 600, Suzuki 1000), Conor Behan (Kawasaki 600 & Kawasaki 650), Keith Amor (Rigdeluge Honda 600 & BMW 1000) and Brian McCormack (Tag Honda 600, Kawasaki 650, Tag Honda 1000).
