Fairyhouse katie walsh wins national and tony martin has a treble
Katie Walsh may have won the Irish Grand National today at Fairyhouse, but Meath trainer Tony Martin was the man in form with a treble to add to his one winner yesterday on the opening day of the three-day Festival.
Martin's other winners arrived from Dedigout partnered by Paul Carberry and I Shot The Sheriff with Paul Townend on board.
There was great excitement with the members of the Dunboyne syndicate that own Mydor which a close third to I Shot The Sheriff.
Surprisingly, the Tote returns were slight down on last year's figure of €397,000 at €392,000.
Regarding the Grand National, it was fairytale finish for Katie Walsh who became the tird woman to win the race after Ann Ferris and more recently, her sister-in-law Nina Carberry.
Katie Walsh won the race with Thunder And Roses for trainer sandra Hughes.
There was one fatality - Tammy's Hill while five horses departed at the first fence including the Meath-trained Vics Canvas and Lion na Bearnai.
There were only nine finishers - prizemoney for the first 10.
