Cosmos advance in challenge cup
Navan Cosmos kept their hopes of a double alive when they negotiated a potentially tricky assignment tonight at the MDL with a comprehensive 5-2 victory over Duleek in the Challenge Cup.
The Cosmos are also pushing for honours in the race for the Premier League title.
However, tonight it was all about the knock-out atmosphere of the Cup and the Navan men advanced after leading 1-0 at the interval through a Conor McManus goal.
Duleek's cause wasn't helped when they were reduced to 10 men soon after conceding the goal - Niall Hudson picked up two yellow cards in only 90 seconds and it go worse when Duleek fell further behind through a own goal early in the second-half.
Barry Kavanagh pulled one back for Duleek but Brendan O'Donnell and Alan Murphy extended the Cosmos lead before Robbie Daly hit the target for Duleek.
There was no late recovery though and Laurence Ivers made it 5-2 for Cosmos before the end.
