Stamullen rider best at Meath championships
After a lapse of many years, Navan Road Club put their shoulders to the wheel and revitalised the Meath Cycling Championships on Sunday where Stamullen M Donnelly's David Wherity emerged victorious claiming the title ahead of Clonard's Gerard Dunne and Navan's Aidan Wall. Wherity took the lead early in the main A1 race and was not to be caught while in the A2 event Ciaran Hallinan (DID Dunboyne) was first as Simon O'Dea (Navan Road Club) continued his good form to take the A3 race. The A4 race saw John Lynskey (Bohermeen) crossing the line ahead of Tommy Barrett (Moynalty) and his club mate Paul Kelly in third. Brian Moran (Navan) pushed the group forward to follow the break and took fourth place in the process. The veteran class saw a hard-fought battle with Craig Sweetman (M Donnelly Stamullen) taking first ahead of Gary Gorman (M Donnelly Stamullen) in second and John Wall (DID Dunboyne) in third. The novice race gave a chance for cyclists to test themselves on a fast course and it was Blair Clinton (Navan) who took first with Vivian Dunphy (Navan) second and Aidan Cannon (Inspiration/Dunboyne) taking third. All-Ireland Junior Time-Trial champion Ryan Mullen scored another great victory when he won the 2012 Beker Van Belgie Time Trial last weekend. Navan Road Club's Fiona Guihen (pictured) was in action at the European championships recently and will now set her her sights on the forthcoming An Post Rás na mBán.
