Trim's pedestrian crossings 'need a lick of paint': Cllr
Town councillor William Bligh has asked the Trim town engineer to have the markings on the pedestrian crossing at Market Street repainted to make it more visible. He said that pedestrians have a tendency to step straight out onto the crossing without stopping to look, and there might be an accident there one day. Cllr Bligh asked if the markings could be given a "lick of paint" to make the crossing more visible to motorists. Cllr Phil Cantwell said that they needed to create space each side of the crossing where no parking takes place. Cllr Vincent McHugh said he believed there was meant to be a space left each side of the pedestrian crossing. He said he felt the two crossings on the street were not in line with health and safety legislation and that the other one is on a junction (Market Street and Emmet Street) and should never have been put there. Cllr Trevor Golden said some of the loading bays on the street were quite large and could be pared back to make a buffer zone at each side of the crossing. He also said there needs to be a clearway box outside the post office, He said the crossing line had faded and that it was extremely dangerous. Cllr Golden also raised concerns about traffic exiting Church Lane onto High Street and said there is no visibility of pedestrians on High Street. He suggested that a mirror could be erected for vehicles on the far side of the street. He added that the lane was being used as a short-cut in the town's one-way system and that the cars are coming out of the lane a bit too quick, Cllr Ronan McKenna suggested a ramp, but Cllr Golden said that even if the cars are going at two miles per hour, they cannot see a toddler.
