Green filter light at Navangate?

Trim Town Council is to examine the possibility of introducing a filter light for traffic turning right onto the Ring Road from Navangate in the town. At a council meeting last week, Cllr Vincent McHugh said traffic turning right from Navangate wanting to go to the Dublin Road "could be waiting for 15 minutes to turn". He said that during the balloon fiesta, there was chaos. In his opinion, two filter lights are needed. Cllr McHugh said that the biggest "disaster" in Meath had been in Dunshaughlin for traffic crossing the N3 to go to Ratoath. When lights were erected, they were "brilliant" and "the best set of lights in the world", he added. Cllr Gerry Reilly said that when turning from Navangate, you had to "take your chances and hope" and that it "wasn't great road safety". Cllr Phil Cantwell said the traffic can back up as far as Lidl and that there should be sensors 50 yards up. After being told by the town engineer, Vincent Collins, that there are sensors on the lights, Cllr Cantwell said that, in his opinion, they weren't working. Town manager Des Foley said what concerned the engineer was that a filter light could have a detrimental impact on other routes and delay traffic even further. Mr Foley said the officials would come back to councillors setting out what the likely impact would be. Cllr James O'Shea said that, as a person living in the area, he didn't want further delays and said it was important the engineer and his staff checked it out first. Cllr Trevor Golden said he agreed there was an issue with the junction but suggested it may be too narrow at Navangate for a filter lane.
