There was great sadness throughout Meath, Louth and her native Westmeath, as well as abroad, following the recent death at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, of Sr Eucharia Kenny, Convent of Mercy, Trim, aged 84 years. Deceased was a daughter of the late James and Brigid Kenny of Cullionmore, Mullingar, and entered the Mercy Convent, Trim, in 1950. She qualified as a nurse and worked in St Joseph's Hospital, Trim. In 1957, she was assigned to Berlin, New Jersey, USA, where the Trim Sisters had established a school. Sr Eucharia qualified as a teacher and combined her teaching and nursing skills in the school and parish. She returned in 1978 to St Mary's, Drogheda, where she continued her nursing ministry. She joined the staff of the Cottage Day Hospital in 1993 on a voluntary basis. Deceased encountered many older citizens and made changes in their lives through her creative arts programme. Alongside her ministry, she was a woman of deep prayer and this was manifested in her work with Icons. As expressed by one of her past pupils in the USA on hearing of her death: "Always a smile for everyone, a Mercy life of dedication, truly a loving person and highly thought of educator. Alongside her ministry, she was a woman of deep prayer and this was manifested in her work with Icons." Sr Eucharia is survived by her nieces, nephews, and the Mercy community. Her remains were removed to St Patrick's Church, Trim, on Saturday 15th October and the funeral Mass took place on Sunday 16th October to St Loman's Cemetery. _____________________________________________________________ Caroline Lee, Oristown The regretted death occurred on 23rd October last of Mrs Caroline (Carrie) Lee, Oristown, Kells, at St Colmcille's Nursing Home, Kells. A native of Grange, Carlanstown, Kells, she was a member of the Roche family and was aged 93 at the time of her passing. She was daughter of Carthage Roche, Moorehill, Tallow, Co Waterford and Josephine Williams, Grange, Carlanstown, and was predeceased by her husband, Laurence (Larry) Lee Snr, on 10th February 1989. Deceased was renowned for having the gift, the cure of thrush. She was a past treasurer and captain of Headfort Bridge Club. Mrs Lee was also a member of Navan Racecourse, a past member of the ICA, a keen gardener and excellent cook, and was well known for her great hospitality and love of good company. She is survived by her son, Laurence (Larry), Jnr, Oristown, Kells; daughters, Helen, Dublin, Carol, Slane and Patricia (Trish), London; cousin and lifelong friend, Ann Battersby, Grange, Carlanstown; grandchildren, Zohar, Laura, John, Karl and Meghan Lee. Mourners included Tom Roche, Moorehill, Tallow, Co Waterford, Aine Lee, Ashbourne, Timothy Stuart, Slane, and John Hankins, London. The funeral took place from Oristown Church, to Gibbstown Cemetery, with chief celebrant Fr John O'Brien, PP, Oristown. ____________________________________________________________ Thomas Stoney, Dunshaughlin and Achill Island There was widespread regret following the passing of Thomas (Tommy) Stoney, Pollagh, Achill Island, Co Mayo, and formerly of Roestown, Dunshaughlin, at Ballina District Hospital, Co Mayo, in his 81st year. A native of Killeen, Dunsany, he was predeceased by his wife, May, on 28th March 1999. He is survived by his daughters, Anne Lavelle, Achill, and Carmel Stoney, Edinburgh, and son, Richard, Essex, UK; grandchildren, Adrian, Colin, Gary and Jennifer Lavelle, Gemma Murray and William and Elizabeth Stoney; brother, Frank, Dunshaughlin; and brothers and sisters, Lily, Seamus, Dano in England and May in America; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by brother, Gerry. The funeral took place from the Church of Ss Patrick and Seachnall, Dunshaughlin, to the local cemetery, on Thursday 13th October. A month's memory Mass takes place in Dunshaughlin on Saturday 12th November at 10am.
