Born in Ballivor in 1932, Mr Dempsey worked in Spicers and Smyths of Trim before emigrating to Nottingham, England in the 1950s. There he and his wife, Gertie raised their family. The family returned to settle in Trim in 1976 where deceased joined the staff of Scottish Legal Assurance Company. He subsequently worked at St Joseph's Hospital, Trim, where he was a popular and hard working member of staff until ill health forced his retirement. He underwent a successful quadruple by-pass in 1986. In his youth, Mr Dempsey was involved in amateur dramatics, appearing in John B Keane's 'Sive', amongst other productions. He was well known for his GAA commentaries when he mimicked the legendary Michael O'Hehir with great aplomb. Deceased was a great follower of Meath GAA, even returning from England on many occasions for games. In latter years he was often nervous of Meath/Dublin fixtures lest his heart condition get the better of him during the more intense encounters! He had a great interest in horse and greyhound racing and trained a couple of dogs for a time. Though very much a 'homebird' he did travel to the USA to visit his three sons and he was particularly fond of Australia where his brother John and sister-in-law Maureen gave him a great welcome when he visited. Mr Dempsey loved his garden and was very proud of it, spending many happy hours there. When his health deteriorated, he was lovingly cared for by the staff of Hillview Nursing Home in Rathfeigh and it was there that he died on 7th September. As a Ballivor native he always had a great love of the bog and it was his wish that he be buried in Killaconnigan cemetery on the road to Coolronan. Mr Dempsey is survived by his wife, Gertie; daughter, Frances; sons, Paul, John, Michael; brothers, sisters, son-in-law; daughters-in-law; grandchildren, relatives and friends. The funeral took place from St Patrick's Church, Trim, to Killaconnigan Cemetery, Ballivor.
