Time capsule to mark end of Trim Town Council

A time capsule that will be buried underground to mark the end of Trim Town Council has arrived in Trim from the United States.
Cllr Gerry Reilly came up with the idea to mark the end of the town council era and sourced the time capsule in the US which will be placed in the ground on 30th May 2014 - the last day of the town council - and will be opened 50 years later, on 30th May 2064.
A site has been identified on the footpath close to the castle gates and it is intended that there will be a glass cover over the capsule so that people can view it. A commmorative stone bearing the names of the last town councillors and officials as well as the date it went into the ground and the date it is to be opened will mark the site.
Cllr Reilly updated members on the project at this week’s meeting of the town council and said he had visited sixth class pupils in the town’s four primary schools, along with Cllr James O’Shea. He said the schoolchildren were very enthusiastic and intrigued by the project.
They were asked to submit their ideas on what Trim will look like in 2064 and these will be included in the time capsule. Cllr Reilly asked councillors for feedback on what else they would like to include in the capsule. He suggested that they get someone to take photos of the streets in 2014 and include them, and also include a town council tie, class photos of the children who write the essays, the town council minutes, the town development plan, a copy of the Meath Chronicle and pictures of the town maces and chain.
Cllr Ronan McKenna suggested that voluntary groups be invited to submit photos of their committees or groups. Cllr Phil Cantwell said clubs could also take photos of their teams, date them and include the names.
Cllr Michael Kenny suggested they ask the oldest person in the town and the parents of the youngest person to write their aspirations for Trim.
The time capsule will be buried as part of the closing ceremony of the town council on Friday 30th May next
