Campaigners have 14 months to save Navan A&E

Local campaigners have just 14 months to save Navan’s accident and emergency department (A&E), following a clear indication from senior HSE management on Monday night that the facility will be relocated to Drogheda next year.
There has been a furious reaction to the news, along with a determined pledge by hospital campaigners to fight the decision which, they warn, will cost people’s lives.
On Monday night’s ‘Prime Time’ on RTE Television, Ian Carter, the HSE’s national director of acute services, said Navan would lose its A&E department within “14 or 15 months”.
He said it was planned to relocate emergency services from Navan to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda as new bed capacity comes on-stream in Drogheda, which would be in 14 to 15 months’ time.
The Save Navan Hospital campaign has vowed to vigorously oppose the proposal in the months ahead. PRO Dr Ruairi Hanley said there was no doubt that if this plan is allowed to proceed, lives will be put in danger.
