Silverware for Meath hurlers
Adam Gannon emerged as the hero as Meath captured their first piece of silverware under the guidance of manager Cillian Farrell when they won the Kehoe Cup against Kildare at Newbridge today by 1-21 to 0-19 after extra-time.
Gannon’s late second-half point forced extra-time (0-16 each) and then the Killyon player rifled the sliotar to the net with almost the last puck of extra-time to put Meath into an unassailable position.
Kildare will open their NHL Div 2A campaign at the same venue next Sunday against Carlow.
Meath will start NHL Div 2B away to Wicklow at Arklow next Sunday, a grade below Kildare, but officials, selectors, players and supporters will be quite rightly buoyed by this success.
