#RoyalRumble, #WWE, Batista, Daniel Bryan, Reigns, Kevin Nash

The WWE Royal Rumble took place last night (Sunday 26th Jan) and dominated the social media sites. Basically its 30 WWE fighters battling it out in the ring until 29 are eliminated and one is left standing. It ended up Roman Reigns vs. Batista with Batista coming out on top as champion. However the night was not without controversy, like most WWE fights. The crowd inside the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh heavily booed the match between Orton and John Cena, voicing their opinion that it should be Daniel Bryan in the match. Then, when Bryan did not enter the Royal Rumble Match, the crowd booed the remainder of the match, only turning in favour of Reigns when he squared off with Batista.

Taylor, #GRAMMY’s

The who’s who of the Music Industry were all in the Staples Centre in LA on Sunday Night as the 56th Grammy Awards Ceremony took place.  Big winners on the night included Ryan Lewis and Maclemore, Lorde, Jay Z and Daft Punk.  One of the most tweeted and talked about moments of the show however came from Country Queen and all round man-eater Taylor Swift. Swift was nominated for Record of the Year for her album ‘Red’ along with Daft Punk’s ‘Random Access Memories. Each nominee had a camera on them as the winner was announced, which was Daft Punk. However, given both albums start with an R, Taylor Swift thought she had won and jumped up with a shocked face. HOW embarrassing, but it gave us a good giggle in the office. For those of us who value our sleep and didn’t stay up to watch the awards it will be aired on RTE Two tonight at 7.30pm.

Nadal

The Australian Open Final took place on Australia Day-Sunday Jan 26th-and saw Rafael Nadal and Stanislas Wawrinka battle it out to win the first Grand Slam of 2014. All eyes were on Wawrinka in the build up to the game as he shocked audiences by beating World Number 2-Novak Djokovic in the Quarter Finals after a five set thriller. Rafa Nadal also had his fair share of audience interest as he battled blisters on his hand from the heat and the racquet. However, Nadal's hands were the least of his worries as half way through the second set the Spaniard was seen wincing in pain and holding his back. After the set ended Nadal took a medical time out to which he returned to his dressing room for treatment. In between games and sets he received physio on his back. The world number 1 didn't go down without a fight though and came back to win the third set, sending the match into a fourth set. But it was not to be for the Spaniard as Warwinka took the fourth to win it 6-3 6-2 3-6 6-3. The Swiss native became the first man in 20 years to beat the world number 1 and number 2 and win a grand slam. Warwinka has now moved up to World number 3 and is definitely one to watch for the coming year.
