Fireside sessions in Beggy's for those winter nights
“Many of us have experienced live music in pubs, and there is no denying it adds to the atmosphere. During our recent visit to the Fireside Sessions in Beggy’s Bar Navan, we found it to be run like no other, with a standard set so high and expected by the engaging patrons, in a relaxed yet uplifting environment, for both the performers and the listeners. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!”
There’s many a pub in Ireland never mind in the county of Meath that would love to have such an unsolicited accolade attributed to them from the likes of Tyron Van Rooyan, renowned music promoter with TYR Music Promotions, who enjoyed an evening at the 'Fireside Sessions' in Beggy’s Bar when his daughter Casey Leigh joined for an evening of acoustic music supremacy.
Beggy’s has always been a home to great, non-mainstream music and performers. David ‘Jinxy’ Beggy former Meath player, multi-All Ireland Winner, twice All Star recipient and Leinster Rugby player runs this exceptional music sanctuary with his brother Stephen, himself a former Navan Rugby Club star and Meath tennis champion. David and Stephen are also both talented musicians who truly love their music and strive to bring only the best of music and musicians available, nationally and internationally, to their authentic, traditional pub, on Bridge street Navan.
Beggy’s, a popular social spot has always been a haven for great, non-mainsteam music, which can be enjoyed by all, with classics and favourites from across the world of music. With a vibe that is unique in the county, an eclectic line up of professional musicians that are highly rated at home and abroad, the Fireside Sessions have proven to be so popular with the crowd that Stephen and David have decided to really focus more of their attention on continuing to bring exceptional musicians to Navan, while ensuring they employ the services of some of the best of local talent available.
“It’s heartwarming, and simply great craic when you see how much our customers enjoy the Fireside Sessions. There’s a little magic to be honest. There are times, when I am listening to Oisin Leech of the Lost Brothers, Brian Byrne, Grammy nominated composer, both from Navan, who make it their business to drop in to Beggy’s and perform, when at home, that I think I have been transported to some other bigger, music venue.” Of course I can’t forget the regular support we get from the talented Davy Dunne, one of Navan's best known musician/songwriters who has been playing on the music scene for over 25 years, many of them with us, and who has released several albums of his own music, which have been critically acclaimed,” says David.
Stephen whose musical talents cover many instruments says: “I think we can get the caliber of musician because David and I are as serious about our music as we are about our sport, though these days, it’s playing the music and hiring in seriously rated acts that takes priority in our personal lives. That is not to say that we will not continue to show live sport! Of course we will, but only when it’s live and certainly when it’s a much anticipated match or game.”
Although you could be forgiven for thinking that the brothers Beggy had enough on, make sure you don’t miss the new Saturday nights when The Beggy Brothers are launching their new series, called ‘Later…with’
“Stephen and I are very excited about this. The idea is simple and to be honest is something we have been doing anyhow, for many years now. We just decided to formalise it a little. It has always been our great pleasure to invite internationally renown stars to Beggy’s, some even just show up for Fireside simply because of the reputation we have established for ourselves on the live music scene over time. ‘Later…with’ will be Stephen and I as the Beggy Brothers and each Saturday night we will have exceptional Special Guests, there to entertain our customers. The best part of it is that it’s all free! We are also looking forward to welcoming the autumnal evenings with the return of our ever popular Monday night ‘Oscar Winner’ Cinema Club.'
Beggy’s a sanctuary of music and song has live acoustic session music every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights with a Cinema Club on Mondays.
