Injury-time goal rescues O'Mahonys
Navan O'Mahonys snatched victory from the jaws of defeat this evening in Athboy when they got their SFC Jubilee Cup campaign off to a winning start with a 2-9 to 1-11 victory over Na Fianna.
Na Fianna had to feel completely deflated by this defeat as they were ahead by 1-11 to 1-9 as the game ticked into four minutes of added time.
And it was in thgose final few seconds that Paddy Smyth flicekd the sliotar to the na Fianna net from a Paddy Skehan '65' to secure what up until that stage seemed an unlikely result.
Na Fianna were ahead by 1-5 to 0-4 at the interval but as the Navan men rallied after the break it was 1-9 apiece with nine minutes remaining.
Na Fianna missed some frees in the closing stages and paid a heavy price when Smyth finished to the net.
Barry Slevin with six points was the top scorer for Na Fianna, paddy Skehan with 1-6 took that honour for O'Mahonys.
