Football club rally around community in Summerhill during Covid 19 pandemic
Over one hundred thoughtful young Summerhill football players answered an appeal to make cards and pictures for the elderly and vunerable in the community who are cocooning to ‘help spread come cheer.’
That’s just one of the ways that Parkceltic FC has been rallying around those in need in in response to the Covid 19 Pandemic.
A spokesperson for the club commented:
“In order to support our local community Parkceltic have been coordinating community services in conjunction with the GAA, Sonas Sasta, Centra and Londis Summerhill, so as to support the Summerhill Third Age Centre and our elderly and vulnerable community members who are currently cocooning.”
Young club members made cards and pictures for elderly in the community
The idea initially came from Paddy Mulreid, former club chairperson and was welcomed by all the team and committee as explained:
“We had asked all our young players and children of the local communities to make a card, letter or picture and to drop these in to Centra or Londis in Summerhill.
“On Saturday we collected 117 cards and these were then distributed to our cocooning community along with some chocolate goodies.
“We hope to have helped spread some cheer and lifted the spirits of those that need most at this challenging and worrying time.
“Parkceltic FC volunteers also assisted with the delivery of Meals on Wheels over the Easter weekend and are continuing to support the local community in any way possible.”
