Navan RC to host race in memory of cycling legend
Navan Road Club will be staging the Seamus Kennedy Memorial 2020 race on Sunday 8th March with a large number of cyclists sure to participate. The race gets underway at 12.30.
This is the first time Navan Road Club will stage the Seamus Kennedy Memorial. Previously the race was hosted by Dunboyne Cycling Club.
Seamus was a member of Navan Road club having been part of a group including Larry Clarke, Noel Clarke and Brian Connaghton who were a formidable force in road racing in the 1970s.
He recorded numerous high-profile victories including the Ras Tailteann in 1978 riding for his parents' home county of Kerry. He continued to race and train for many years with many riders benefitting from him giving advice and sharing his renowned tactical skills.
Navan Road Club have invariably held the first race of the season and the organisors are hoping there won't be a repeat of last year when snow almost caused the event to be stopped.
Registration for the race is at Simonstown GAA Navan (from 9.30) with the races starting at 12.30 with the cyclists embarking on a 24-mile lap taking in Scanlons X, Roadstone Slane, Woodtown X, Cassidys X with the finish @ Wilkinstown Hall approx 3.30pm.
