Tolan to run for the Seanad
Fine Gael Councillor, Sharon Tolan has been selected by Fine Gael to run for the forthcoming Seanad Election.
The Fine Gael National Executive Council met on Thursday night at Party Headquarters in Dublin to ratify the decision of the internal party commission set up to select 13 nominees.
Some 51 names were put forward for consideration from Constituencies, Parliamentary Party, Executive Council and Young Fine Gael. Tolan was selected to run on the Industrial and Commercial Panel, and will now be on the road between now and Polling Day 30th March to secure as many votes as possible from the electorate which is made up of County Councillors, TD’s and outgoing Senators.
“I am absolutely delighted and honoured to have been selected by the Party to run for the Seanad. I have worked hard over the past six years as a county councillor and more than doubled my vote in 2019. It has always been my ambition to represent Louth-East Meath at a national level and I will be doing all I can to secure a seat in the Seanad to do just that!” said Tolan.
In this week's edition of the Meath Chronicle we reported that Cllr Paddy Meade had received an endorsement from the party at the Meath East Seanad selection convention last week ahead of Cllrs Sharon Tolan and Gerry O'Connor. We understand Cllr Tolan did not contest it as she had already secured a nomination from the Fine Gael parliamentary party. We are happy to clarify the matter.
