Donaghmore Lane road closure from Monday as water works commence in Navan

Irish Water and Meath County Council are commencing works on the water supply to homes and businesses in Navan on Monday.

Irish Water says that the delivery of these essential works will provide a safer more secure water supply for the town minimising the frequency of bursts on the trunk watermain from Proudstown reservoir to Navan town, improving the resilience of the water network. It will also support continued social and economic development of Navan.

The works will include the construction of almost 5km of new trunk watermains and will be carried out in four phases. Construction on phase one will commence on Monday 4th November on Donaghmore Lane. A road closure will be required for this phase of the works. The road will be closed on Donaghmore Lane (L7415) from junction with R162 Proudstown Road to the N51 Slane Road from 4th November until 28th February 2020. Diversion routes will be in place and will be clearly signposted. Emergency access will be maintained at all times. Local access will also be maintained for the duration of the road closure. The road will be reopened during the Christmas period from 20th December 2019 to 2nd January 2020. The works will be carried out on behalf of Irish Water by GMC Utilities Ltd. 
The works may involve some short-term water outages, our project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water outage. We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and our works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption.

Adrian McLoughlin, Irish Water, said: “The construction of 5km of new trunk watermains in Navan is vital to ensure a safer and a more secure water supply to homes and businesses in the town. The works in Navan form part of a significant investment by Irish Water to safeguard the water supply. Upgrading the water infrastructure will ensure that customers in Navan and surrounding areas will have a more reliable and secure supply which will result in fewer disruptions to their water supply because of bursts. Irish Water understands this type of work can be inconvenient and we will ensure our work crews make every effort to minimise any disruption these works may cause.”
These works are being carried out as part of Irish Water’s national Leakage Reduction Programme which will see €500 million invested up to the end of 2021 to reduce the level of leakage across the country by fixing and replacing ageing water mains. This will ensure a safe, reliable water supply which is vital for our health, our environment and our growing population and economy.
