Drogheda manager Timmy Clancy.

Clancy set for Shels showdown

Timmy Clancy will continue as manager of Drogheda Utd until 2021 after the club announced last weekend that the Trim man will remain at the helm for another two seasons.

That will be a boost for everyone involved with the club ahead of the biggest game of the season at United Park this Friday night against Shelbourne, 7.45pm.

Clancy finished his playing career in 2017 with Bray Wanderers before taking up his first managerial job with Drogheda ahead of the 2018 First Division season.

Last season Drogheda made it to the play-offs before losing out to Finn Harps who gained promotion to the Premier League with a play-off victory against Limerick.

With two games remaining this season, Drogheda trail leaders Shelbourne by three points, but have a better goal difference and will be looking to move to the top of the table with a win on Friday night.

A Shelbourne win would give the Dublin side side the title while a Drogheda win put them top going into the into the final weekend of the season when Drogheda will travel to Bray and Shelbourne will host Limerick.

However, that game against Limerick could be in doubt as the Munster club had an Examiner appointed last week.

As part of Drogheda’s centenary year celebrations, Drogheda will host a Legends Night this Friday at half-time.

Among the 30 former Drogheda players who will be honoured on the night are three from Meath - Gary Rogers from Bohermeen, Shane Barrett from Enfield and Martin Rogers from Navan.
