There was widespread sadness following the death on 29th November last of Mr Brendan Wogan, Monknewtown, Slane, at the age of 92. He passed away at his residence, where he had been cared for by his daughter, Bernadette. Son of the late James and Christina Wogan, he was a native of Slane and was predeceased by his wife, Mary, in 2002. He worked in Roadstone, Slane. Deceased lived for his family and for sport, and his passion in life was the GAA and the Meath team. He visited Croke Park in 2009 at the age of 91 to watch Meath play, and it was a dream of his to see the new Croke Park Stadium. Mr Wogan is survived by his daughters, Bernadette, Slane; and Helen and Mary, Drogheda; son, Joe, Laytown; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; in-laws, relatives and friends. The funeral Mass took place from the Church of St Patrick, Slane, to the Hill of Slane Cemetery. _____________________________________________________________ Sean Collins, Hayes The passing of Mr Sean Collins, Carndubh, Hayes, Navan, at the age of 90, occasioned widespread regret. He died at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, on 4th December last. A native of Ennis, Co Clare, Mr Collins was an engineer with Meath County Council until his retirement in 1983. He was also a member of Royal Tara Golf Club and Beauparc Active Retirement Group. Deceased is survived by his wife, Ita; daughter, Ann Flynn, Windmill Road, Beauparc; grandson, Ciaran; son-in-law, Francis; brother-in-law, Vincent Flynn, Carrigaholt, Co Clare; sister-in-law, Veron Lynch, Dublin; nieces and nephews. The funeral took place from the Church of the Assumption, Beauparc, to the adjoining cemetery. _____________________________________________________________ James Cassidy, Moynalty The regretted death occurred on 19th October last of Mr James Cassidy (83), of Ballintlieve, Moynalty, Kells, at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan. Deceased, as well as farming, was a rate collector for Meath County Council, and also a publican, during his lifetime. He is survived by his wife, Teresa; sons, John and Jim; daughter, Helen; son-in-law, Robert; daughters-in-law, Margaret and Yvonne; grandchildren; great grandchild; sister, Mary; brothers, Patsy and Sean; sister-in-law, Ann; and nephews. The funeral took place from the Church of the Assumption, Moynalty, to Moynalty Cemetery. _____________________________________________________________ Mollie Douglas, Trim The regretted death occurred on 1st November last at Heatherfield Nursing Home, Dunshaughlin, of Mrs Mollie Douglas (nee Crosbie), Navangate, Trim. Mrs Douglas (88) was predeceased by her husband, George, in December 2003. A native of Trim, she was a former employee of J&E Smyth's, Trim, and St Joseph's Hospital, Trim. She was also a keen tennis and badminton player in her younger days, and enjoyed a game of bingo. Deceased is survived by her daughter, Georgina Douglas, High Street, Trim; son-in-law, Andrew, and grandchildren, Abigail, George and Elizah. The funeral Mass took place from St Patrick's Cathedral, Trim, to St Patrick's Cathedral Churchyard, to be buried with her late husband, George. Deirdre O'Grady, Navan There was widespread shock and sadness following the unexpected death of Mrs Deirdre O'Grady, McDermott Villas, Navan, at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, on 14th November last. A native of Monaghan, she was daughter of the late George and Anna Lena Steenson, and came to Navan when her father was Postmaster, from 1942-1951. Prior to her marriage to John O'Grady in 1971, deceased was employed in Meath County Council. She was involved in many community activities, including the Citizens Information Centre, Navan Musical Society, Navan Historical Society, and the Irish Cancer Society's Daffodil Day. Mrs O'Grady was an active member of Navan Probus Club up to her death. Hobbies included theatre, gardening, films, attending shows in the Solstice Theatre, Navan, current affairs, fashion and good food. Deceased had a special interest in World War I history in which three of her Steenson uncles died. Aged 76 at the time of her passing, she is survived by her husband, John; brothers, Roy Steenson, Bailieboro and Ken Steenson, London; brothers and sisters-in-law, nephews, and nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Doreen McCabe, Kilkenny. The funeral Mass and burial took place from St Mary's Church, Navan, to St Mary's Cemetery.
