Matt Dwyer, Dunboyne

There was much sadness following the peaceful passing at his home of Matthew (Matt) Dwyer, Warrenstown, Dunboyne, on 18th December last, aged 79.

Deceased worked for Mother’s Pride and Brennan’s Bread as well as KC Products.

Matt was a very keen sportsman. He started his football and hurling career with neighbouring Batterstown and on moving to Dunboyne, won Feis Cup honours in 1958.

He also claimed intermediate hurling medals in the Dunboyne colours. On retirement, he coached the Dunboyne camogie team to championship success in 1985 and ‘86.

Matt was also heavily involved with various fund raising projects for the Dunboyne club’s new playing grounds at Rooske.

As an athlete, he won several cross country events.

He regularly followed the Meath football team around the country for league and championship games.

Deceased was a keen dancer with his wife Phil, and enjoyed attending Galway Race week annually.

Son of the late Joseph and Margaret Dwyer of Warrenstown, Dunboyne, he is survived by his wife, Phil; daughters, Trisha, Carol, Emma and Ann; son Matt junior; brothers-in-law, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, relatives, neighbours and friends.

The funeral took place from Ss Peter’s and Paul’s Church, Dunboyne, to Rooske Cemetery.

 

Gerald Baden, Liverpool

The untimely death occurred in hospital on 17th December last of Gerald (Gerry) Baden, Crosby, Liverpool, England, aged 74 years. Gerry is survived by his wife, Julianne (nee Mooney) of Farranadoony, Moynalty; his sons, Julian and Karl; their partners, Kathryn and Collette; and grandchildren Marcus and Alexander. Gerry was interred following Requiem Mass in St Peter and Paul’s Church, Liverpool Road, Crosby,  on Monday 30th December. Gerry will be remembered by many for his video of the Moynalty Threshing. He will be sadly missed.

There was a large gathering at the funeral, including family and friends from Ireland and across the UK and Spain. The family have requested donations to the Alzheimers Society in his memory.

 

Margaret Fitzsimons Snow, Oldcastle

 

The regretted death occurred at Cavan Hospital on 10th December last of Margaret (Peg ) Fitzsimons Snow, Stoney Road, Oldcastle, aged 81.

A native of Ballyconry, Lissleton, Co Kerry, deceased was daughter of the late Ned and Margaret Fitzgerald and was predeceased by her husband, John, in July 2004.

Peg spent her life looking after her family. She was a great bingo fan, and played pitch and putt for many years in Oldcastle.

She was a member of the Ceili House Set Dancers in the 1990s.

Deceased is survived by her sons, Eamon Fitzsimons, Gortloney, Dromone, Oldcastle, Michael, Gortloney, James, Crosafehin, Virginia, John, Ballinvalley, Oldcastle; daughter, Margaret Cunningham, Carpenterstown, Castlepollard, Co Westmeath, Anna Horgan, Mweevuck, Lisselton, Co Kerry, and Theresa Daly, Stoney Road, Oldcastle; 25 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sons-in-law, Tony Horgan and Gerry Daly; daughters-in-law, Sharon and Eilish Fitzsimons; relatives, neighbours and friends.

The funeral took place from St Brigid’s Church, Oldcastle, to Oldcastle Cemetery.

 

Eithne Morgan, Boardsmill

There was widespread sadness following the passing on 16th December last, peacefully at her home, of Eithne Morgan, Brannoxtown, Trim, aged 88 years. Deceased was daughter of the late Patrick and Mary Kate Blake and was a native of Brannoxtown. She was predeceased by her husband, John Morgan, in October 1978.

Eithne was an active member of Third Age and took part in many outings including acting with the local drama group.

She loved her bingo and made many friends through this.

Deceased was the heart and soul of her family, and loved having everyone around, especially on Sundays where everyone would get together after Mass for tea and her famous brown bread.

She is survived by her son, Seamus; daughters, Mary O’Brien, Patricia Bennett, Eileen Ryan, Geraldine Leonard, Fidelma Farrell and Rita Reynolds, sons-in-law; grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; extended family and close friends. She was predeceased by son, Vincent, in September 2005.

The funeral took place from St Bridget’s Church, Boardsmill, to St Loman’s Cemetery, Trim.

 

Mary Gunne, Kilberry

The passing of Mary Gunne (nee Murray), Kilberry, Navan, on 3rd December last at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda was met with sadness throughout the community.

A native of Corduff, Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, she moved to Kilberry following her marriage to Peter Gunne, making a home there for herself and her family.

Mary demonstrated a keen interest in poultry and gardening. She was a follower of her native Monaghan football team and took great pride and joy in their recent Ulster championship title win.

She is survived by her husband, Peter; son, John; daughter, Catharina; brother, PJ; sisters, Bridie and Kathleen; and nieces and nephews.

She devoted her life to family, community and her deep faith, and will be fondly remembered by her extended family as a source of strength and counsel in time of need.

The funeral took place from St John the Baptist Church in Kilberry on Friday 6th December followed by interment in the local cemetery.
