St Pat's fail Knockbeg test
Despite scoring a goal in the second minute St Patrick's CS, Navan lost out to St Mary's Knockbeg College 1-10 to 1-13 in this Leinster Colleges SFC encounter at Pairc Tailteann today.
Padraig Finnerty fired home that early goal to give St Pat's the perfect platform but he had to leave the fray at the interval with an injury and as the game progressed it was the physically strong Knockbeg side who took control.
The sides were level 1-3 to 0-6 at the break and the play swayed from one end to the other until Knockbeg took a firm grip on proceedings on 48 minutes when one of their top performers Killian Horgan powered his way through and fired to the net.
That goal put Knockbeg 1-11 to 1-7 in front and after that there was no way back for St Pat's who spurned a number of good opportunities for points.
Trim's Aaron Lynch ended up their topscorer with six points but the Navan school side were unable to break through for a second goal which they so badly needed.
