Ashbourne CS win North Leinster title tonight
Ashbourne CS won the North Leinster PP Schools' SF title at Skryne tonight with a 3-14 to 2-9 victory against Dunshaughlin CC.
This was a thoroughly deserved victory for the Ashbourne students who dictated for most of the hour and were ahead by double scores, 2-8 to 1-4, at the interval.
Dunshaughlin started brightly and had the ball in theAshbourne net from Ruairi Kinsella inside four minutes, but that was as good as it got and Ashbourne found the net soon after when Jack O'Connor finished well.
O'Connor was the stand-out player on a solid Ashbourne team and he added a second goal in the 27th minute.
The Curraha player also sent over three pointed frees with a brace from Darragh O'Sullivan and one each by Jamie Browne, Diramuid Moriarty and Dawson Devoy.
Luke Mitchell converted three frees for Dunshaughlin with Harry Dunne also splitting the posts in that opening half.
Once Browne found the net for Ashbourne soon after the resumption there was never any doubt about the outcome.
However, Dunshaughlin kept battling and reduced the deficit with some well-taken points and an added-time Mitchell goal that took the bare look off the scoreline.
Leinster official and St Vincent's clubman Brian Carberry presented the Shield to joint-captain O'Connor and Nigel Hand.
