Recent deaths 29-05-10

There was widespread sadness following the recent death of Mrs Breda Byrne (nee McEvoy) of Abbeylands, Navan, who died at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, after a brief illness. Mrs Byrne was educated at the Ursuline Convent, Thurles, and went from there to train as a state-registered nurse at the Meath Hospital, Dublin, where she nursed for some years, until joining the staff of Our Lady's Hospital, Navan. She continued nursing until she met her husband, Michael. She was very musical and was an accomplished violinist and pianist as well as being a keen gardener and excellent cook. She enjoyed all sports, especially tennis. Deceased also enjoyed travelling and accompanied her husband, Michael, to Europe and America, but enjoyed nothing better than returning home to Abbeylands and having her large family around her. She was a great neighbour and friend to all. Deceased is survived by her husband, Michael; sons, Bill and Michael; daughters, Julie Kingston, Sinead McGirr, Helen Clarke, Valerie Casserly and Michelle Hoffman; sister, Mildred; sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her removal took place from Fox's Funeral Home, Abbeylands, Navan, to St Oliver's Church, Blackcastle, Navan. Burial took place afterwards in Kilmessan Cemetery. _____________________________________________________________ Bridget Kiernan, Carlanstown There was widespread sadness following the passing on 28th April last of Mrs Bridget Kiernan, Staholmog, Carlanstown, aged 96. Predeceased in 1967 by her husband, Thomas Kiernan of Glenrath, Carlanstown, she was a member of the Duffy family of Headstown, Castletown Kilpatrick. Mrs Kiernan loved her farming life from a young age and she had a great interest in gardening and flowers. She was, in her youth, a member of the choir and also the altar society in St Patrick's Church, Castletown. Deceased also played on the local camogie team for some time. Later during the 1950s, she was a member of the Kilbeg branch of the ICA and she had many fond memories from that time. She was a loving aunt to her nieces, Brigid, Kathleen, Agnes, Mary, Tara, Joy and Lisa; and her nephews John and Patrick. She will also be sadly missed by her sister-in-law Bridget Duffy, Castletown KP and nieces-in-law Imelda and Mairead; nephews-in-law Adrian, PJ and Nigel and her seven grandnieces and grandnephews and her extended family, carers and friends. The funeral took place from St Michael's Church Staholmog, to Moynalty Cemetery. The months mind mass will be in St Michael's Church on Sunday 6th June at 10am. _____________________________________________________________ Eamon Cassidy, Drumconrath The death occurred recently at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda of Mr Eamon Cassidy, Summerhill, Drumconrath at the age of 82. A native of Kilmainhamwood, he farmed at Drumconrath for over 50 years. He had a great love of livestock and was a regular at Ardee, Kingscourt and Carnaross marts until recently. He was devoted to his family and was also a keen lover of sport especially the GAA. Deceased is survived by his wife Imelda; sons Fintan, Drumconrath, Thomas, Nobber, Michael and Philip, Navan, and Fergal, New York; daughters, Marie Byrne, Ardee, and Brenda Cassells, Ballymahon; sons- and daughters-in-law; 13 grandchildren; brothers; sister; sisters-in-law; nephews; nieces; relatives and friends. The funeral mass took place from Ss Peter's and Paul's Church, Drumconrath to Drumconrath cemetery. A months memory Mass will be offered on Saturday 5th June at 11am in Drumconrath. _____________________________________________________________ Frank O'Connor, Dunboyne There was widespread sorrow in Dunboyne and further afield following the sudden death of Mr Frank O'Connor, 'Rosefield', Warrenstown, Dunboyne, on 28th April last. Deceased was a native of Blackrock, Co Dublin, and was a carpet salesman with TC Matthews. Mr O'Connor worked as a sales representative for the company from stores in Lucan, Navan and Dunleer, and he got great enjoyment out of having the banter with customers and colleagues. Deceased was a member of Trim Golf Club. He also enjoyed supporting Dunboyne football, hurling and camogie teams, and a guard of honour was provided at the obsequies by Dunboyne GAA. He loved music and was involved in Dunboyne Choral Society and Music Society and was well know for a sing song in Brady's Bar. He will be best remembered for his great personality and sense of humour, as he had the ability to light up any room. Mr O'Connor is survived by his wife, Caith (Kathleen); sons, Johnny and Thomas; daughters, Evelyn and Margaret; grandchildren, Grace, Joe, Aisling and Katie; son- and daughter-in-law, Terence and Jenny; brothers Jim and Louis; sister, Helen, brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. The remains were removed from the O'Connor home to Ss Peter's and Paul's Church, for a Funeral Mass, followed by burial in Rooske Cemetery, Dunboyne. A month's memory Mass will take place at 7pm on Saturday 29th May in Dunboyne Church. _____________________________________________________________ Thomas McMahon, Navan There was great sadness over a wide area at the recent death of Mr Thomas (Tom) McMahon of Farganstown, Navan, at his residence, at the age of 74. A retired farmer, he is survived by his wife, May; sons, Pat, Gerry, Thomas and Michael, Navan; daughters, Anne Cullen, Beauparc, Martina McKendry, Beauparc, Mary Finnegan, Beauparc, Sheila McLoughlin, Athboy, Bernie Boland, Navan, Deirdre McLoughlin, Athboy, Louise McCabe, Navan, Olive Velentin, USA; sons-in-law; daughters-in-law; grandchildren; sister, Angela Sheridan, London; nephews and nieces. His remains were removed to the Church of the Nativity, Johnstown and the funeral took place to St Mary's Cemetery.
