€8.5M investment for Ashbourne

 A €6.38m investment for Ashbourne is on its way from the Urban Renewal Regeneration Fund as part of Project Ireland 2040. The two schemes that will benefit from the funding are Milltown Road that will receive €2,270,000 and Main Street Phase 2 that will receive €6,231,150. This funding will be further increased by €2.12m from Meath County Council bringing the total for Ashbourne town to €8.5m. 

The project will include:

Construction of cycle Facilities on the Milltown Road; 

The proposed element of the scheme includes for the construction of cycling and pedestrian facilities on Milltown Road from the junction with the R135 in Ashbourne town to Crenigans Banóg Housing Estate. The proposed scheme also consists of traffic calming measures, pedestrian improvements to the Milltown Bridge as well as the installation of a traffic signal shuttle system. The scheme also includes car parking provisions at the Milltown Estate, Community Playing Fields and the Ashbourne Community School set down area which is sited along the 1,320m long scheme.

 Construction of cycle Facilities Main Street / R135 :

These works consist of Phase II of the Ashbourne Main Street Refurbishment Scheme. The works will commence and tie into Phase I of the Scheme which was constructed in 2014 -2016. They extend from the north of Dunnes Stores on the Main Street and extend northwards to the Rath roundabout on the N2, and to the south of the Deerpark junction extending southwards to the Nine Mile Stone roundabout on the R125. The proposed element will have an overall length of circa 2.7 kilometres.
