Gaels march to deserved victory
After their narrow defeat to Na Fianna in the opening round Blackhall Gaels bounced back to get the better of Navan O'Mahonys by 1-15 to 0-12 in the SHC at Ratoath this evening.
Right from the start the the sharp, fully-alert Gaels got a foothold in this game racing into a 1-7 to 0-0 lead after just 12 minutes and while O'Mahonys came back strongly there was no stopping Blackhall.
The Blackhall goal arrived in the 12th minute when Jonathan Meyler doubled on a John Kelly centre and the ball flew past O'Mahonys' goalkeeper Shane Flannery. At the break Blackhall led 1-8 to 0-6.
In the second-half O'Mahonys narrowed the gap to a goal but they were unable to get any closer as Blackhall rolled on.
Meyler, Dermot Carty, who scored six points, Stephen Morris, Kelly, Colm Whitty, Shane Whitty, Mark Nicholson and Tom Murphy all contributed scores to Blackhall's winning tally.
O'Mahonys had a good spell in the lead-up to the interval but they couldn't push on. Paddy Skelton landed seven points for them, five frees, with Jack Walsh, John Foley, Cormac Keys and Dylan Regan others to registers scores. However the Navan side suffered from their slow start. The Hoops were also annoyed that they didn't get a goal in the opening half with Regan's effort instead given as a point.
