Recent deaths 29-08-09

The death occurred on 10th August last, at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, of Mrs Annie (Nancy) Glennon, Athronan, Dunsany, aged 90. Mrs Glennon was a member of the Mangan family, Dunshaughlin. Deceased was a member of Dunsany Irish Countrywomens' Association guild, and Kilmessan Social Club, and both these organisations provided a guard of honour at the obsequies. Mrs Glennon worked with the Collier family when they ran Dunsany Stores and Post Office in the 1960s, where she was known as 'Mrs G' by other members of the staff. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael, in 1984; and son, Christy, in 2007. Deceased is survived by her daughter, Jean Finnegan, Kilcarty; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Glennon, Athronan; son-in-law, Joe Finnegan; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, Nuala Wall, Kilcarn, Navan, and Moya Hegarty, England; nephews, nieces, in-laws; relatives and friends. Her funeral took place from the Church of the Assumption, Dunsany, to the adjoining cemetery. _____________________________________________________________ Sean O'Reilly, Navan The death recently occurred at his home of Mr Sean O'Reilly (John Reilly), Dufflands, Commons Lane, Navan. Aged 77, he was a builder and a native of Skryne. Mr O'Reilly played football for Skryne in his younger days and was a member of the 1954 club team which won the Meath SFC. Deceased is survived by his wife, Kathleen; sons, Declan, Paudge, Finian, Vincent and Brian; brothers, sisters, grandchildren, daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces. The funeral took place from St Mary's Church, Navan, to St Finian's Cemetery, Navan. _____________________________________________________________ Peter Friery, Kells Great sadness was occasioned by the sudden death of one of the Kells community's most popular and colourful characters, Peter Friery, who died at his home in Loyd on Tuesday of last week. Mr Friery, who was 87 years-old, was well-known throughout Kells. He visited the town regularly right up to his death and often cycled into Kells from his home at Loyd. A very learned man, he loved reading and was a great writer. He particularly loved meeting people in the town for lively chats. Mr Friery was loved by young and old alike and was well-known as a great singer. A son of the late Bridget and Michael Friery, the family lived at Balrath before moving to Loyd. He worked for over 30 years at the Headfort estate and also worked in Tara Shoes. Deceased is survived by his sisters, Josephine and Nancy; brothers, Noel and Tony; nephews and nieces. A large crowd attended the removal of his remains to St Colmcilles Church, Kells, and the funeral to St Colmcille's Cemetery, Kells. _____________________________________________________________ Thomas Clarke, Navan The death occurred on 28th July last of Mr Thomas Clarke, St Brigid's Villas, Navan, at the age of 40. Deceased worked in the catering industry and for the last three years worked in The Flying Aubergine restaurant in Taunton, Bristol. Previous to that, he worked in Jury's Hotel, Ballsbridge, the Newgrange and Ardboyne hotels in Navan, and in Hytherm, Navan. As well as cooking, other interests include sport, table quizzes and supporting Liverpool Football Club. Mr Clarke was the eldest of a family of eight and will be remembered as a loving, giving and thoughtful son, brother and uncle, who will be sadly missed by his friends and loved ones. Predeceased by his mother, Angela, and nephew Cian, he is survived by his father, Brendan; sister, Marian; brothers, Derek, Alan, Colm, Sean, Michael and Paul; sisters-in-law; nephews, Eoghan, Adam, Darragh; niece, Casey, uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives and friends. The funeral took place from St Mary's Church, Navan, to St Finian's Cemetery. _____________________________________________________________ Michael Mahon, Navan Mr Michael Mahon, O'Growney Terrace, Navan, whose death occurred at St Joseph's Hospital, Trim, was predeceased by his daughter, Mary, in 1995. He is survived by his wife, Theresa; daughters, Deirdre, Adrienne, Beatrice and Ann; sons-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The funeral took place from St Mary's Church, Navan, to St Mary's Cemetery.
