The late Kathleen Tormey

Death of Kathleen Tormey of Ashbourne

The death has occurred of Kathleen Tormey of Ashbourne, wife of Meath county councillor and former Meath GAA County Board chairman, Conor Tormey.

She had been battling cancer for over a decade. Two years ago, in an interview with the Meath Chronicle, Kathleen spoke of the great work being carried out by all at the Mater Hospital as she was being treated for her cancer. She became a guiding light for others from the area going for treatment as she spoke of her own experiences there.

Kathleen Twomey, whose family business was the Natural Stone Yard outside Ashbourne, and Conor Tormey, from a well-known GAA family, knew each other from a young age, and he was by her side during her long illness and treatment, as she was during his political and GAA career. She was a welcome guest at the Meath Sports Personality of the Year awards over the years, an event which she always enjoyed, but sadly was unable to attend this year because of her illness.

All at Meath Chronicle extend our deepest sympathies to the Tormey and Twomey families.
