Navan Town edged out

Despite the defeat this was an encouraging performance from Navan Town who are still getting used to the rigours of Meath & District Premier League football. On Sunday it was their turn to host Square who raced into a 2-0 lead before Adrian Dowdall volleyed to the net for Navan Town"s first goal in the top flight. It got better for the hosts when Kevin Dunphy equalised with a fine left-foot finish however Square snatched a late winner. Town 'keeper Larry Smith saved a penalty in the closing stages while Keith Russell, Mark Doherty, Smith and Dunphy gave big performances for the Town. Duleek 2 Rock Celtic 4 Duleek couldn"t have made a worse start to this Premier clash on Sunday conceding an early goal and they leaked two more to trail 0-3 at the interval. Derek Cummins twice went close to finding the net for Duleek in the opening half. The same player was involved, along with Colin Woods, in creating an opening for Paddy Coates who netted after the interval. Soon after David Andrews saved a penalty. Woods made it 3-2 but Rock added a fourth. Disappointed Duleek were well served by Woods and Stephen Corcoran. Trim Celtic 1 Albion Rovers 3 Trim Celtic still await their first point of the season in the Premier after their second home defeat in a row. Albion took the lead from the penalty spot before David Conway equalised after a Noel Payne effort rebounded off the woodwork. Albion went on to score two more after the break. Richard Fitzsimons, Alan Douglas, Paddy Peppard and Mark Gilsenan went close to adding another goal to the Trim Celtic account. Patrick Conway and Mick Corrigan were best for the Meath side. Slane 3 Glaslough 1 Paul McGoona got his first win in the Premier as Slane manager when his side edged out Glaslough despite going a goal behind. On previous occasions Slane may have led their heads drop if they went a goal behind. Not on this occasion and they will be hoping it is a sign of things to come. Glaslough led at the break before one goal from Brian Collins and two from Derek Rock put Slane in front. Aidan Rock also saved a late penalty. Colin Wogan, Barry Finnegan, Collins, Derek Rock and Jonathon McCarthy stood out in a fine team display from Slane. PREMIER A RESERVE Torro 1 Ardee Celtic 1 Paul O"Reilly finished off a well-worked move to put Torro ahead in this Premier Reserve encounter. O"Reilly scored with a delicate chip but Ardee equalised before the interval. Torro created chances, but couldn"t find a winner. Best for Torro were O"Reilly, Shane Tolan and Shane Glynn.
