'Off The Rails: The Complete Collection' (RTE 1, Wednesday, 8.30pm) - This week 'Off The Rails: The Complete Collection' takes a look at the All-American girl who everyone wants to be friends with - and how to steal Jennifer Aniston's style! A-list movie star Thandie Newton talks to Brendan Courtney about her favourite cosmetics and weakness for chic outlet shopping. And the team meets 24-year-old Niamh Dempsey who loves clothes and shopping - for her sisters but not for herself. With a wardrobe comprising of a couple of hoodies and some trackies, can Sonya convince her to release that inner glamazon? _____________________________________________________________ 'Afghanistan: The Unknown Country' (BBC 2, 9pm) - Most people know Afghanistan as a country forever at war. But for centuries, it's been a destination for explorers and adventurers - so what makes this land so fraught and yet so fascinating? Lyse Doucet takes a trip across the Afghanistan that doesn't feature on the news - a country of stunning natural beauty and a proud, independent people. It's a journey to meet Afghan poets and politicians, wrestlers and warlords. In the north, a Mujahadeen-turned-governor dreams of building a glittering Afghan Dubai, while in the southern city of Kandahar, bodybuilders dream of being the next Arnold Schwarzenegger. _____________________________________________________________ 'The Fall Of Womenland' (RTE 1, Wednesday, 12.10am) - Documentary on the unique sexual culture of the Mosuo people, a small Chinese minority, and one of the last matriarchal societies in the world. Without a formal marriage contract, the Mosuo traditionally build relationships based on free love and sexual satisfaction. This story follows Bima, a young Mosuo woman, and learns of her reality and of the modern dangers that threaten her inherited way of life. _____________________________________________________________ ' The Good Wife' (RTE 2, Thursday, 9pm) - The second season of this US drama returns, starring Emmy Award-winner Julianna Margulies as a wife and mother who boldly assumes full responsibility for her family and re-enters the workforce after her husband's very public sex and political corruption scandal lands him in jail. Pushing aside the betrayal and crushing public humiliation caused by her husband, Peter, Alicia Florrick starts over by pursuing her original career as a defence attorney. As a junior associate at a prestigious Chicago law firm, she joins her longtime friend, former law school classmate and firm partner Will Gardner, who is interested to see how Alicia will perform after 13 years out of the courtroom. In this double episode, Alicia makes her decision about whether to stay with Peter or pursue a relationship with Will, and takes on the case of an army reservist accused of murdering his wife. _____________________________________________________________ 'Nazi Hunters' (RTE 2, Saturday, 5.50pm) - As one of the highest-ranking Gestapo officers in Rome during the war, Erich Priebke was responsible for one of Italy's worst atrocities - the Ardeatine Cave massacres. On a direct order from Adolf Hitler, Priebke orchestrated the assassination of 335 Italian civilians. And, after escaping to Argentina at the end of WWII, he eluded justice for 50 years until a high-profile team of American TV journalists stumbles onto his trail. _____________________________________________________________ 'Superstorm: Attack The Hurricane' (RTE 2, Tuesday, 7pm) - Set in the near future where global warming has led to ferocious hurricanes, this is a factually-based drama series which follows a team of scientists as they embark on a project to investigate ways of diverting and weakening storms. They are given clearance to fly into a small hurricane and seed it with silver iodide - a technique first developed in the USA in the 1960s in a government-funded project called Stormfury. However, just after the seeding takes place, the plane crashes, killing all on board. _____________________________________________________________ 'Movie Of The Week: The Dead' (RTE 1, Sunday, 2.45am) - This classic 1988 drama starring Donal McCann, Angelica Huston and a host of steller Irish talent is directed by John Huston. Based on the closing story of James Joyce's 'Dubliners', Anjelica Huston is Gretta Conroy, the niece by marriage of turn-of-century Irish spinsters Kate and Julia Morkan. At the home of these two curious ladies, Gretta is prodded into remembering her long-dead lover.
