Wishbone Ash guitarist joins Pat McManus for Palace gig

Next month will see what promises to be a very special night of music at The Palace Bar in Navan, when the Pat McManus band will be joined by a very special guest, Wishbone Ash founding member, guitarist Andy Powell. A very young McManus first met Powell when McManus" former band, Mama"s Boys, played on the same bill as Wishbone Ash at the Lisdoonvarna Festival in 1982. Mama"s Boys went on later that year to join Wishbone Ash on a two week tour of the UK. The two mens" paths crossed over the years. Still it wasn"t until March 2009, when Powell joined the Pat McManus band on the legends tour in France as the band"s special guest, that their friendship was rekindled. McManus and band members, Dungannon drummer Paul Faloon and Dublin bassist Gordon Sheridan, got talking and invited Powell to join them as a special guest in August for a few friendly gigs in Ireland and he gladly excepted. Andy Powell has just celebrated 40 years of Wishbone Ash at a packed Shepherds Bush Empire in London. Their popular albums include 'Argus", 'There"s the Rub" and 'New England". Wishbone Ash are considered to be one of the major innovators of the harmony twin lead guitar format and Powell has been voted one of the top 20 guitarists of all time and one of the most important guitarists in rock history. So with two such great guitarists, this event on 6th August in The Palace, Navan, has all the promise of a not to be missed night of music, with a feast of McManus"s new and old music, some Wishbone Ash classics and some great blues/rock standards.
