Focus on local soccer
The new soccer season is looming for Meath & District League clubs and this week we take a look back at who was playing for Trim Town 21 years ago. Back in 1989 Trim Town fielded two teams in the MDL and in 1988/89 Trim Town 2nds took the runner-up position in the old Div 5 South. That was in the period before dedicated Reserve Leagues were introduced for second teams, that took place for 1994/95 season. Trim Town won a Premier A Reserve title in 2003. One of the most memorable games Trim Town were involved in was the 1992 Gerry Bradley Memorial Shield (competition not played anymore) final where they beat Robinstown at Tully Park following a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory by 14-13. This season Trim Town will campaign in Div 3A and they will also field a team in the Reserve League. For the first time, the Reserve League will cater for five grades due to the demand this season. At last week's meeting of the MDL, it was decided to add an extra division in the Reserve League. Overall, there will be 11 divisions in the 2010/2011 MDL.
