McWilliams to launch Trim's carbon neutral campaign
Outspoken economist and columnist David McWilliams will deliver a keynote speech on peak oil and the green economy at the launch of the Trim 2025 campaign next week. Trim 2025 is a group which aspires to help Trim achieve carbon neutral status over the next 15 years, and Transport Minister Noel Dempsey will formally launch it on Friday night, 4th December. The event coincides with the build-up to the major Copenhagen 2020 Climate Change Conference and the organisers hope to raise awareness and support for local carbon emission reducing initiatives. Local company Mahon Waste Disposal is the main sponsor. McWilliams will also be signing copies of his new book, 'Follow the Money', in Trim on the night. In the exhibition hall, where Trim 2025, the Haggard Art Group and friends will be exhibiting from Friday 4th December to Sunday, there will be wood-turning from David Black (Kilmessan), watercolour paintings from Bernadette McPolin and Rachel Ennis (both Trim), acrylic paintings, Kay Shiels, Denise Keoghan, (both Kilmessan); Trish Bannon (Kiltale) and Sharon Burke (Trim); photography, Enda Casey, John Burke, Danny O'Brien (all Trim) and Tommy Bulmer (Kilmessan); oil paintings, Linda Durkin (Dunshaughlin) and Eamonn Gibbons (Kilmessan); oil and pastels, Ann Marie McInerney, Philip Brady (both Trim) and Judy Glynn (Athboy), and mixed media, Aislinn Foley (Trim). Places for the formal launch and speeches in the arts exhibition hall at Trim GAA Centre are limited, so contact Enda Casey on thegasun@gmail.com or (087) 131 6194 to register. Later that evening, the launch celebration continues on the 'Mahon's carbon neutral stage' as The Magic Numbers, Ham Sandwich and guests will rock the GAA centre. This performance by The Magic Numbers is their only Irish date on their November/December tour, other than the Cork Opera House on 5th December. Tickets for the Trim concert are €20 from Tickets.ie. People can also register as a 'Friend of Trim 2025' for €15 at Trim Credit Union. Registration entitles one to free entry to the launch concert - the receipt is the ticket. Doors open at 6.30pm. To receive future updates, subscribe on www.trim2025.net
